It involves lying off of hands and letting the creator energy pass through the hands. The healer is able to lay his hands on to the patient or one who wants to have a better health and the energy from the universe flows into the patient or the person for whom the energy is meant. Strikingly, no special abilities, qualifications are needed for it and anybody with the will to heal somebody can do it. Another important aspect of all this is that the Reiki energy is special and has its very own consciousness. Therefore, the healer only plays the role of a media and the energy automatically cures the client. The practitioner does not have to do anything. He just has to lay his hands on or near the body of the client. The rest is done by the intelligent energy itself. This intelligent and conscious energy alone ensures everything.

So there is no involvement of any faith or belief in the process. Just by putting hands the patient or the sick or the diseased is healed. So Reiki is a truly wonderful system of healing clients in a gentle, noninvasive and harmless way. There are absolutely no side effects of Reiki and it can be performed anywhere, anytime on persons, situations, events, animals etc. without following any strict rules or conditions.

Reiki had its growing phase too. It was originally Japanese in nature but spread to different parts of the world and there have been changes, alterations and modification in its practice a little bit. One such area is Europe where it was brought by Mrs. Takata in the year 1938. She was the only person teaching Reiki in Europe and she was very strict and rigid in her teachings. She was very possessive about the way it was practiced and required her students to practice it in the only way she told. Her teaching was that there is no place for self experimenting because by doing it in one’s way is simply not Reiki. There was also a trend in which the Reiki masters used only oral methods of teaching and passed on to the students somewhat little less than what they have been taught and this caused some loss.
