It needs no guidance as it is the intelligent and conscious life force energy and the Reiki practitioner only plays the role of a medium for the universal life energy to the body of the client. But you should place your hands at the right place as mentioned traditionally. Reiki will flow to the affected part of the body and do its work. It clears the energy channels in the body and restores the original condition of good health. Illnesses and diseases occur when there is obstruction in the flow of energy or in the energy chakra of the body. As a result of negative mind-set, blockages are created in the energy field of the human body.
