The distant healing symbol is taught in the level 2 of Reiki course which includes drawing it, explaining the meaning and significance of the symbol and the use. It is used to heal anybody from long distance. Similarly is hands-on healing which is done in person. So the Hands-on & distant healing are both important parts of Reiki. They are used for different purposes which depends whether the client is near or not. The distant healing can be used to heal anywhere and anytime as required. It can be used by the practitioner to send Reiki healing and energy to people spread in different parts of the world. Here the distance is not important because it is just like healing in front and distance does not matter at all. The use of it can be in times of tragedies such as tsunami or earthquake and peace conferences or war areas. It is for all living beings on earth.

It is basically a Japanese idiom and has a special meaning and cultural value. There can be various meanings to it because different people will assign it different meaning but it may be related to consciousness. One of such definition can be ‘the origin of all is pure consciousness” as the meaning of the word. The meaning of the word is very profound because it means that everything that we see comes from consciousness. This includes the non-living things such as rivers, rocks, mountains etc. It obviously means plants and animals also. We can get considerable knowledge about anything only by focussing our attention on ourselves. It is also possible for us to return to the origin as well. This is the basic of enlightenment and consciousness.

It can also be said that the quality of energy matters and not the quantity. The energy instructs the body organs and cells to function in a healthy way. This is important because illness is the result of bad functioning of cells and tissues of the body and Reiki cures that. The source of negative instruction is the person only consciously or subconsciously. Deep traumatic experience settles in deep psyche and causes detriment. Healing is done by traits of forgiveness, insight, wisdom etc. which instruct cells to function at very high levels for miraculous cures. It is basically consciousness which heals deep by creating right type and level of conscious energy to heal bodies, minds and emotions.
